Kadokawa Pictures Ningen Shikkaku (AKA: The Fallen Angel) (2010) (Blu-ray) (Premium Edition) (Japan Version)
Rp 951.000
Coinciding with author Dazai Osamu's 100th birthday, producer Kadokawa Tsuguhiko and director Arato Genjiro take on the first film adaptation of the tortured author's novel Ningen Shikakku (a.k.a. No Longer Human). For his ambitious production, Kadokawa gathers an all-star cast which includes Ikuta Toma, Iseya Yusuke, Terajima Shinobu, Ishihara Satomi, and V6's Morita Go. As the producer of the controversial independent film Whispering of the Gods, which could only be shown in a theater built with his own money, Arato is not a director who shies away from dark topics, making him the perfect choice for the project.

Completed soon before Dazai's suicide, Ningen Shikakku is a gloomy, semi-autobiographical story about a man's fall from grace and the loss of human conscience. The film stars Johnny's artist Ikuta Toma as Oba Yozo, a man who is consumed by his alienation from those around him. Unable to get over a childhood trauma, Oba goes on a path of self-destruction with alcohol and woman - a dangerous mix that will prove to be fatal.

Blu-ray Edition comes with a bonus DVD featuring making of, stage greeting event, trailers, and more.

Kadokawa Pictures Matsuda Yusaku 20th Memorial Blu-ray Box (Blu-ray) (Japan Version) at 0.00 USD from YesAsia
Kadokawa Pictures Matsuda Yusaku 20th Memorial Blu-ray Box (Blu-ray) (Japan Version)
Rp 2.294.000
Released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Matsuda Yusaku's passing, this Matsuda Yusaku 20th Memorial Blu-ray Box comes with four digitally remastered classics starring the late Japanese Cinema legend.

The Resurrection of the Golden Wolf (1979 / 131 min)
Directed by Murakawa Toru, this quintessential 70s action noir has all the hardboiled chemistry, romanticized exploitation, flamboyant wardrobe, and campy background music one could possibly ask from the genre. Matsuda Yusaku plays a ruthless Afro-sporting salaryman-cum-criminal who is more than willing to lie, cheat, and kill to get his fortune. Based on an Oyabu Haruhiko novel, The Resurrection of the Golden Wolf provides a free-wheeling ride with more than enough criminally cool action and intense energy to entertain the whole way through.

The Beast To Die (1980 / 118 min)
After a police officer gets killed in a back alley, his gun is used in a series of armed robberies. With bodies piling and a large amount of money missing, the police are at a lost to find the culprit. Based on a strange lead, detective Kashiwagi (Murota Hideo) closes in on former war reporter Date (Matsuda Yusaku), a reclusive who rarely leaves his home and often listens to classical music. In his demeanor and presence, Kashiwagi finds an inexplicable feeling of coldness, like that of a dead man. Departing from his slick action personae, Matsuda went to great lengths to prepare himself for the dark and complex role in A Beast to Die, his final collaboration with director Murakawa Toru.

Proof of the Man (1977 / 132 min)
Based on the best-selling Morimura Seiichi novel, this classic murder mystery directed by Sato Junya (Yamato) chronicles the investigation into the dead body of a young African-American man (Yamanaka Joe) discovered in a Japanese hotel. Matsuda Yusaku stars as the detective whose investigation leads him to New York City. There he teams up with an American detective (Broderick Crawford) to uncover the dead youth's tragic past.

Story of the Detective (1983 / 111 min)
Naomi (top 80s actress Yakushimaru Hiroko) is a college student set to leave for the States in a week, and Shuichi (Matsuda Yusaku) is a private detective hired to be her bodyguard. When the two accidentally get pulled into a murder case involving a gang leader's son, they work together to investigate the mystery. But this unlikely duo seems to have gotten way in over their heads. Based on an Akagawa Jiro novel, director Negishi Kichitaro's Story of the Detective was a huge blockbuster during its release, winning audiences over with its charming mix of youth tropes and detective drama.

The most expensive film made in Japan at the time, and now considered one of the director's masterpieces, Kurosawa Akira's Ran is a lush period epic that, like many films of similar scale, encountered a tough uphill battle during its production. Based on William Shakespeare's King Lear, Ran was made during a turbulent period of the master director's career, but that didn't diminish any of his directorial abilities. Featuring large sets and some of the best scenery Japan has to offer, this story of a warlord (reportedly based on Kurosawa himself) dividing his empire among his sons to disastrous results wowed audiences around the world, earning multiple nominations at the Academy Awards that year. To this day, Ran is considered a masterpiece of Japanese Cinema, and now it arrives in high definition on Blu-ray!

On the eve of his 70th birthday, warlord Hidetora (Nakadai Tatsuya) has decided to divide his empire among his three sons. His youngest son Saburo (Ryu Daisuke) denounces the plan and is quickly banished, while the two elder sons Taro (Terao Akira) and Jiro (Nezu Jinpachi) gladly go along. However, Taro and Jiro allow greed to take control of them, waging a bloody war against each other for the control of the empire. Soon, Hidetora is banished from his own land, forced to go on the run from the lethal forces of both his sons.

Equal parts samurai drama and Godzilla, Daiei Studio's fondly-remembered Daimajin series transports the metropolitan mayhem of the daikaiju eiga ("giant monster movie") to sixteenth-century Japan. At a time when Toho's flagship Godzilla series had begun to slide into high camp, 1966's Daimajin sought to recapture the B-movie thrills of the genre's early days. Director Yasuda Kimiyoshi takes a no-nonsense approach to the proceedings, and while the action does culminate in a fifty-foot-tall stone statue coming to life and stomping on a feudal Japanese village, the film always takes itself seriously. Yasuda would bring the same style to Daiei's other samurai monster movie series, Yokai Monsters, but Daimajin stands as his most memorable contribution to the genre.

During Japan's Warring States period, the kindly Lord Hanabusa is overthrown by the wicked Samanosuke, a tyrant who enslaves his subjects to build an immense fortress from which he will conquer the neighboring domains. A faithful samurai and a Shinto priestess hide Hanabusa's children Tadafumi and Kozasa in a mountain shrine to Majin, a giant stone statue worshipped by the local peasants as a god. Once the children come of age, Tadafumi and his friends plot to depose Samanosuke. As the struggle for control of the Hanabusa lands comes to a head, Samanosuke's evil ways anger Majin. The stone giant stirs to life, and only Kozasa has the power to check its rampage of destruction.

Actor Oguri Shun crashes his way into the film director world with Surely Someday, his directorial debut. Loosely based on his own high school days, the film has been in the works since 2005, when Oguri wrote a one-page outline. However, the project did not officially go ahead until Oguri asked Crows Zero screenwriter Sato Shogo to turn the outline into a feature-length script. An energetic comedy about the recklessness of youth and its consequences, Surely Someday features a talented cast led by Koide Keisuke (Nodame Cantabile), Katsuji Ryo (Shonen Merikensack), Ayano Go (Crows Zero II), Suzuki Ryohei (Yankee-kun to Magane-chan), and Muro Tsuyoshi (Yatterman). Oguri also calls in all his favors, inviting star actors Inoue Mao, Otake Shinobu, Okamura Takashi, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Ueto Aya, and Takenaka Naoto for cameos. Packed with directorial flair, outlandish humor, and lots of young male bonding, Surely Someday is a loud proclamation that a new talent has arrived on the film directing scene, and his name is Oguri Shun.

Takumi (Koide Keisuke) and his four friends have always been troublemakers with plans that don't tend to work out very well for them. When their dream of performing on stage as a band at their high school festival is shattered, the five build a bomb and threatens the school into letting them perform. The school grants their request, but the bomb blows up anyway, causing the five to be expelled. After losing themselves in direction-less lives for several years, the boys are reunited when Takumi runs into a sex worker (Konishi Manami) that he had a crush on years ago. The ensuing adventure sends them to an escape from dangerous gangsters, an attempt at bank robbery, and maybe even a chance at giving the performance they wanted to give since their high school days.

8-disc Memorial Edition comes with visual commentary by director and cast, a 6-DVD documentary on the making of the film, a schedule book, a bookmark, a 64-page artist book produced by Oguri Shun, and a message card by Oguri. It also comes with the film's Special Edition DVD, featuring the DVD version of the film, audio commentary by director and cast, making of, deleted scenes with commentary, stage event at the Yubari Film Festival, a digest of the Surely Someday Super Summer concert, and trailers.
