The directorial debut of Love Phobia and Two Faces of My Girlfriend screenwriter Hwang In Ho, Spellbound brings together Korean romantic comedy cuteness with horror movie chills. A big hit at the box office, the spine-chilling romance stars Lee Min Ki (Quick) as the hapless magician and the always charming Son Ye Jin (White Night) as the quirky girlfriend with a supernatural connection. Every magician needs a unique gimmick and Jo Goo's (Lee Min Ki) is horror. His magic shows scare and thrill the audience by calling out a vengeful spirit, played by assistant Yeo Ri (Son Ye Jin). What the ghost-summoning magician doesn't know is that Yeo Ri really can see ghosts. Ever since a near-death experience years ago, Yeo Ri has been haunted by the ghost of her high school friend and driven to a life of loneliness. Most young boys dream of becoming a pilot, a police officer, a baseball player, or the like, but Oh Dong Gu (Ryu Deok Hwan) is a bit different. His lifetime dream is to become Madonna! Or at least a superstar like her. The problem, of course, is that he's a teenage boy, so to pay for his sex change he needs a lot of money. Lady Luck knocks at the door in the form of a ssireum (traditional Korean wrestling) contest, the answer to all his dilemmas. Just ten years ago, a subject like this would have raised huge controversies, but Lee Hae Joon and Lee Hae Young focused on comedy and quirky characters in writing and directing their debut Like a Virgin. With long careers spent writing in all sorts of genres - from comedies (Kick The Moon) and coming of age (Conduct Zero) to modern wuxia (Arahan) and melodrama (Au Revoir, UFO) - Lee Hae Joon and Lee Hae Young show their creativity hasn't waned by starting their directorial careers with an innovative and irreverent comedy. Other than casting super talented veterans like Baek Yoon Shik (Save The Green Planet) and Kim Yoon Seok (Tazza), the film banks on young Ryu Deok Hwan (the youngest North Korean soldier in Welcome To Dongmakgol), who gained over 20kg for the role. There's even a cameo from Japanese star Kusanagi Tsuyoshi of the popular group SMAP, as a Japanese teacher who Oh Dong Gu bears a crush on! One of the most unique films of the year, Like a Virgin was a resounding critical success. Lee Hae Joon and Lee Hae Young won for Best New Director at the 5th Korean Film Awards, Best Screenplay at the 43rd Baeksang Awards, and Best Screenplay and Best New Director at the 27th Blue Dragon Film Awards, while Ryu Deok Hwan won the Best New Actor award at both the Daejong and Blue Dragon Film Awards. Chilsu & Mansu in 1988, Two Cops in 1993, Nowhere To Hide in 1999 - the first is a masterpiece of Chungmuro's social realist movement in the 80s, the second is the buddy flick which revitalized Korean commercial cinema after the drought of the early 90s, and the last is Lee Myung Se's adrenaline-filled comeback after three years, a visual tour de force centered around the cat and dog game between cops and criminals. These three very different films share something in common: Ahn Sung Ki and Park Joong Hoon. Although there's a clear age difference (Ahn is in his fifties, and started acting at the tender age of six in Kim Ki Young's classic The Housemaid, while Park is a little younger, although he's been acting since the mid 80s), the two always shared a special on-screen chemistry. Now, seven years after Nowhere to Hide, these two great actors come together for their fourth collaboration, Lee Joon Ik's Radio Star. Their latest pairing has been another success for the acting duo, winning them joint Best Actor awards at the 27th Blue Dragon Awards and a Best Actor award for Ahn Sung Ki at the 44th Daejong Awards. Radio Star is a curious choice for director Lee Joon Ik. After surprising just about everyone with the fusion historical drama Once Upon a Time in the Battlefield in 2003, he rewrote the records two years later with the surprise hit King and The Clown, the second-highest grossing Korean film of all time. With the entire industry waiting in anticipation for his next move, Lee follows up the period blockbuster with a markedly different entry, a little film reuniting two old friends, banking on good acting, a universal story, and metric tons of warmth. Choi Gon (Park Joong Hoon) was a huge star in the 80s, with many hits under his name and a growing fanbase. But the music scene changed dramatically in the next 15 years, and now he finds himself a has-been without ever realizing his superstar days are over. Manager and long-time friend Park Min Soo (Ahn Sung Ki) understands this better than anyone, but he still tries to support his friend. When Gon moves to a radio station in a small town, it seems like his days in the limelight are finally over. But in that small station representing the last bus stop in his career, Gon soon starts feeling that vibe, that adrenaline he felt on the stage when he was a star. This edition comes with the following special features: Audio Commentary with Director Lee Joon Ik, Ahn Sung Ki, Park Joong Hoon, Producer Jung Seung Hye, Writer Choi Seok Hwan Audio Commentary with Director Lee Joon Ik, Music Director Bang Jun Seok, No Brain Me and You, Choi Gon and Park Min Su Choi Gon's Afternoon Songs of Hope: Making Of Park Min Su's Afternoon Songs of Hope: Making Of Light and Stars: Ahn Sung Ki, Park Joong Hoon Interview Broadcast People: Supporting Cast Interview Teaser Trailer Music Video
